Illuminations

After a long hiatus, I have returned bearing a new series of photos! Photos of lights and fixtures that were around my apartment. Except for the last couple... those were from Disneyland (I'm sure I drew many a look from people wondering why I would be pointing my camera at lights all day). The last one in particular kind of scares the hell out of me, as if it were an image from a nightmare had long ago.

Found

A couple days ago I found this swatch-like collage that I had made some time ago with tiny scraps from something i was working on at the time. Tiny, tiny strips packed together never looked so good. At least not on this blog, they haven't.

Pigeons and Pigs and Queens

As I don't have anything really new to post here, I thought more photos from the Solvang trip might be in order. No rolling hillsides or Seascapes here... just a few oddities found at a local "Garden Store" in a nearby town. There were many a strange object, trinket and bizarre plant arrangement that we couldn't help but pulling out the cameras and going to town... or garden as the case may be.

Return to Acrylic

I broke out my acrylic paints last night for the first time in what may have been a few years. Wanted to try out an idea that I had earlier in the week. I think the painting turned out a little too structured and not quite what i had envisioned, but a worthy effort nonetheless. The painting turned out to be more or less an acrylic version of one of my collages. I fully intend to try another iteration, and perhaps a little larger too.

Here are a few photos that I took on our trip to Solvang this past weekend. None of the photos, however are from or around the actual town of Solvang. Perhaps next time I will find inspiration in sausage, danishes and clogs...

Doodle While You Drive

I sketched this up while I was stuck in traffic on my way to meet some friends after work. I had a flash of amorphic inspiration overlaying an extremely boring office building. The building looks leprous now, but would leave far more of an impression on someone than it's original state ever could!

Swirley-Gig

Wanted to try out something different while i was doodling on the way in to work this morning. This is what came out. It was intended to be slightly figural, but left it open to interpretations. There were a few accusing sideways glances from the people packed in around me as I swirled away in my sketchbook, but I am used to that by now. Perhaps the chaotic forms were quietly evident of the day to come...

Going Large?

Thinking about doing one of these babies on a large scale. Started tinkering with shapes and method of actually making it happen.

More Pre-Collage Studies

Here are a few more quick studies that I whipped up on the way into work on the train this morning. I can't say they are anything to write home about, but it is good to post something nonetheless.

Also, it is getting evident that i really need a scanner at home, so that my squares don't keep looking at rhombuses. Or would they be rhombii?

Unfinished Business

In an effort to make good on a goal to "finish what I start", I found a half-completed collage that I had begun several months ago (which had found a nice dark place to hide since then) and spent some time over the weekend finishing it. This particular collage in the series was 8"x8" in dimension, whereas all previous pieces of this nature were 6"x6". It was initially conceived as a stepping stone in development of this idea into larger pieces.

Deck Them Blogs

The following photos were taken around Chrismastime and were shots from three different trees that I came across in that span of time. Yes, i realize that it is more than 2 months AFTER the holidays... but that matters not! What matters is that I am posting again. So here they are in all their shiny glory!

Silence Broken!

Well, it has been several months since I have made so much as a peep on my blog. But I'm BACK! For now, at least... I suppose i should find a new name for the blog, seeing as though Not A Day Without a Line drawn can hardly describe this site. I will save that matter for another time.

While, I have not been sitting by idly, there haven't been many, or ANY substantial finish products with which i could make my Triumphant Return. Sketches and Doodles abound but never anything quite finished enough to put up here. The point of this project as a whole, though was not about putting finished products up here, but showing thought progress and rough ideas as well. Somewhere along the line I forgot that, or I was just busy with end-of the year-dealings, or BOTH!

But that matters not, as I am here and now!

I finished this collage last night and will be sending it out to my sister for her birthday. It was a return to an earlier theme and collage process that I was exploring last year, and this particular one I have had in my mind for a while. At the risk of spoiling the surprise to her, I am posting it here, where I'm confident she has looked for some time.

This is also the first collage of its kind with a title.
